Grupo Modelo Plant Presentation

Mr. Raul E. Perez, Executive Director for MCDC, was responsible in coordinating a private meeting on Friday April the 30th at 8:30, with Mr. Abel Loza (Gerente General) from Grupo Modelo.

This important meeting was held at Maverick County Development Corporation located at 1818 Industrial Blvd. here in Eagle Pass, Texas with the purpose to have a better understanding of this important investment in our region. Along with figures on economic impact on transportation, railroad crossing, warehousing and estimated initial date of operations.


The following board members attended to this meeting and had the opportunity to meet Mr. Loza: Mr. Saul Fernandez (President), Mr. Hector J. Cerna (First Vice President), Ms. Sonia Shannon (Second Vice President), Mr. Sammy Juve, Mr. John J. Salazar, Mr. Dennis Charlton, Mr. Werner Johnson, and Mr. Pete Segura and Mr. Saul Rodriguez.

We also had Mr. Johnny Ruiz (Middle Rio Grande Development Center), Mr. Ricardo Gonzalez (US Custom Broker President), Ms. Cinthia Rodriguez, and Mr. Sepulveda from U.S. Customs.

Mr. Loza from Grupo Modelo gave a very interesting presentation and provided MCDC board of directors and guests the status of this great project.

As per company's policy this was a private meeting, and no media was allowed.

MCDC Annual Membership Meeting

January 21, 2010

The Maverick County Development Corporation held its Annual Membership Meeting on Thursday, January 21, 2010, 6-8 PM at its new location on 1828 Industrial Blvd.

The purpose of the Annual Membership Meeting was to declare the election results for the three new directors who will serve a three-year term of office from 2010 to 2013. These results included the new addition of Sonia Shannon of Central 57 Imp. & Exp., Inc., Dennis Charlton of Neese Industries, Inc., and John Salazar, retired Customs and Border Protection Port Director.

In addition to announcing three new directors to its board, MCDC Executive Director Raul E. Perez was able to congratulate and award the 2009 Board of Directors for their outstanding work and support. MCDC Executive Director, Raul E. Perez, was also given the opportunity to present the organization's achievements for 2009 and discuss the projects and goals for 2010.


New MCDC Office Location

December, 2009

Maverick County Development Corporation is proud to announce its new location on 1828 Industrial Boulevard. The new office, located between Fed-Ex and MB Hangers will open in December of 2009 and was built to better serve Maverick County and promote business development and economic investment.

“We are setting up our new office for business trade and IT (informational technology) purposes. The idea is to attract news investments that would like to conduct business in our community. Our new office will offer state-of-the-art technology in a modern business-like atmosphere, where other businesses along MCDC will have the opportunity to host conferences, meetings and any other work-related events,” explained our Executive Director, Raul E. Perez.

Our new location, selected primarily because Eagle Pass Industrial Park is a key feature in the community's economic development strategy, will consist of over 5, 000 square feet and will offer other businesses the opportunity to house their own office.

MCDC Official Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting

December 17, 2009

December 17th of 2009 marked the Grand Opening of our new building, the MCDC One Stop Business Center on Industrial Park. The Maverick County Development Corporation hosted its official Ribbon-Cutting and Holiday Reception in the building with such honorary guests as Congressman Ciro Rodriguez, USDA Administrator Judith Canales, USDA Rural Development State Director, Paco Valentin, City Mayor Chad Foster, MCDC Director Raul E. Perez, and MCDC Board President Werner Johnson along with more than 50 ongoing MCDC supporters.

The One Stop Business Center is part of a $95,000 grant presented to MCDC by the US Department of Agriculture and Rural Development at the event.

"You actually have a place that people will drive by and then see our office, we’re hoping that when they do drive by they will inquire and this will become a one stop for economic development. We would love to see some manufacturing jobs, this is where economical development comes from." - Werner Johnson, MCDC Board President.

"This gives us a great opportunity, there's a lot of potential, a lot of other projects throughout the region." - Congressman Ciro Rodriguez.

Grupo Modelo Visit

October 28, 2009

Maverick County Development Corporation, its board members, as well as elected officials were given the opportunity to take part in a grand tour of the Grupo Modelo Plant located 7 miles outside of Piedras Negras, near Nava, Coahuila on October 28th, 2009.

Despite the plant still being under construction, we were granted tour access by the plant manager, Mr. Abel Loza and given the tour itself by Mr. Rubén Darío. The tour served as a great opportunity for MCDC, its board members, and elected officials to both visualize and understand the potential of the Grupo Modelo Plant and the type of contribution it can provide for Piedras Negras' and Eagle Pass' economic development upon its opening in 2010.

MCDC would like to thank everyone at Grupo Modelo for their grand gestures in conducting such an elaborate tour for us and accommodating all of our guests. In addition to thanking Grupo Modelo, we would also like to thank our board members for attending as well as the elected officials who were able to attend.

"I'm currently in the process of trying to find, build, and establish an identity for both Grupo Modelo-Piedras Negras and Eagle Pass/Maverick County," concluded Mr. Perez.


Pachuca Visit

October 25, 2009

October 22-25, 2009 marked the days in which MCDC, along with other city officials took part in a business-related visit to Ciudad Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo, Mexico, in hopes of promoting business development and economic investment for Eagle Pass/Maverick County.

Alongside our Executive Director, Raul E. Perez, other city officials ventured to Ciudad Pachuca de Soto to take part in a formation of a sisterhood bond. Mutual hopes to create and promote exchanges in various fields such as tourism, economic development, social and educational assistance, and promote mutual investments between both cities of Pachuca de Soto and Eagle Pass were established.

The city officials that joined our MCDC Executive Director, Raul E. Perez involved:

  2. John Sullivan, Administrative Assistant to Judge Jose Aranda
  3. Sandra Martinez, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce
  4. Claudia Wright, SRSU Admissions Director
  5. Ricardo Santana Velasquez, Consul de Mexico

The primary objective to build and establish a sisterhood between these two cities Eagle Pass and Pachuca de Soto, allowed various agreements to be signed and approved upon.

For our Mayor of Eagle Pass, Mr. Chad Foster in accompaniment from Mr. Ricardo Santana met with the Mayor of Pachuca de Soto, Mr. Jose Francisco Olvera on Thursday, October 22, 2009, to establish and formalize the sisterhood agreement between both cities.

Following the get together between mayors of both cities, Ms. Claudia Wright of SRSU began her meeting with a representative from Pachuca de Soto’s own Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo, in which various University matters were facilitated between both.

MCDC Executive Director, Raul E. Perez was also fortunate in meeting with the city secretary for Economic Development of Pachuca de Soto, Laura Gonzalez, and city council member Carlos Muniz. Topics ranging from the Mexican and United States border, to warehousing opportunities, transportation, logistics, etc, at a citywide level marked the objective of this meeting.

Our Executive Director, Raul E. Perez convened with Mr. Miguel Estrada Mendez, President of CANACINTRA, and discussed their manufacturing companies’ services and their availability in conjunction with Maverick County’s own. Other topics included the incorporation of our border with Mexico, warehousing opportunities, both geographical locations and its advantages, as well as logistics in relation to both.

Sunday, October 25, 2009 marked the final day of this particular business venture for Eagle Pass officials in Ciudad Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo.

“We would like to thank Ciudad de Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo for the hospitality and generosity in receiving us and treating us to a wonderful business venture. We look forward to building and maintaining our sisterhood with this wonderful city,” explained Mr. Raul Perez, Executive Director of MCDC.

“I was very pleased with every meeting conducted in Pachuca de Soto, especially that of with the Secretary of State of Economic Development for Pachuca de Soto, Mr. Aunard de la Rocha Waite. His explanation on how the State of Hidalgo is currently in the process of building the largest PEMEX Petroleum Refinery in the country of Mexico as well as their new intermodal method of incorporating the railroad, in my opinion, will develop a huge economic development in the immediate future,” explained Mr. Perez.

“MCDC is currently in the process of creating some type of reciprocal gesture of formality for Ciudad Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo and hope to receive a visit from them in the first week of February. Recommendations on my behalf have been submitted to our attending committee to demonstrate our own Maverick County hospitality,” concluded Mr. Perez.


MCDC Visits Mexico City

August 26, 2009

The Maverick County Development Corporation's Executive Director Raul E. Perez traveled to Mexico City, Mexico on August 24-26, 2009 to participate in the seminar, "Invest in Texas," where more than 150 Mexican businesses representatives took part in such event. Communities throughout the state of Texas met to present opportunities within their own respective regions.

Attending such event were key figures Secretary of State Hope Andrade, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, TCEQ Chairman Buddy Garcia, several Texas House members and multiple businesses from across Texas.

"The experience was extraordinary because we were able to interact with over 150 possible investors. We were able to develop and establish a better business relationship with Robert De Hoyos and Alejandra Bueno from the Office of the Governor Rick Perry. In addition to establishing business relationships, I was able to present all of the benefits and opportunities that conducting business with our port of Eagle Pass/Maverick county can offer. Much success is expected from our participation in this seminar."

Raul Perez Appointed Executive Director

August 2009

The Maverick County Development Corporation (MCDC) headquartered in Eagle Pass, Texas, is please to announce Raul E. Perez as its new Executive Director, hired in August of 2009, Mr. Perez will direct and oversee the operations of the private nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to promote business development, economic investment, and create new employment opportunities in Eagle Pass/Maverick County.

An Eagle Pass High School graduate of 1977, Mr. Perez began his academic career at the world renown Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, and graduated in 1981, with a Bachelors degree of Administrative Computer Systems.

Mr. Perez previously served as the Director of Economic Development and Tourism for Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico since 2006, as well as overseeing his own business, Perez Consultores en Informatica since 1998. As the Director of Economic Development and Tourism, he oversaw the rise and establishment of various new businesses in Piedras Negras, some of which include:

  2. Office Deport
  3. Over 16 OXXO
  4. More than 8 restaurants
  5. A Tire Recycle Company
  6. Other spin-off industries of Grupo Modelo
  7. A new university
  8. More than 14 home construction subdivisions

His vast experience includes serving as an Administrative Manager for Partes de Plastico de Mexico, a Sales Representative for Claymex Brick & Tile, Data Processing Technician for United Medical Centers, Senior Marketing Representative for QIV Systems, Inc., and General Director for Grupo QIV SA de CV.

His volunteer service includes taking part as a Board member for CANACINTRA, as well as an active member both the Maquiladora Council, and for City Development of Piedras Negras, Coahuila. Mr. Perez was also the Secretary for the Universities Dean's Development Council.

"I'm very honored for this opportunity to serve as Executive Director for the Maverick County Development Corporation. I appreciate the board of director's faith in my own being to serve this corporation, as I also recognize the responsibility that comes with this opportunity. As an Eagle Pass High School graduate myself, I would like to repay a community that has been near and dear to my professional accomplishments," expressed Mr. Raul Perez.
