The Texas Department of Transportation launched the US 57 Super 2 Project through Maverick and Zavala counties in June 2008. The $7.2 million project totals 30.9 miles in length proposes the widening of roadway to provide two-mile passing lanes. Passing lanes will provide passage for slower traffic enabling faster traffic to use existing portion of the road. The project is scheduled for completion in August 2009.

In March 2008, the Texas Department of Transportation began the US 277 Railroad Overpass Grade Separation Project for Eagle Pass and Maverick County. The $18.9 million project totals .72 miles in length and proposes the construction of an overpass over the railroad tracks at US 277 also known as a railroad grade separation and construction of bridge approaches. Completion of this project is scheduled for the fall of 2009.
