MCDC is the operator on behalf of the City of Eagle Pass for the U.S. Department of Commerce designated Foreign Trade Zone. The Eagle Pass Industrial Park benefits from several federal and state designations and is positioning itself to benefit from these affiliations. The first is the Foreign Trade Zone No. 96 which is a designation from the United States Department of Commerce, Foreign-Trade Zone Board. MCDC will be focusing on activating this designation as the operator for the City of Eagle Pass who is actually the grantee of the zone designation.
Ports to Plains Trade Corridor – The Ports to Plains Trade Corridor is a planned, multi-modal transportation corridor that will facilitate the transportation of goods and services from Mexico through ports of entry such as Eagle Pass, and on to West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and ultimately into Canada and the Pacific Northwest. This is a federal and State of Texas recognition.
Federal Empowerment Zone – In January 2002, Eagle Pass, located in Maverick County, received federal recognition with the designation of the FUTURO Communities Inc. Empowerment Zone by the United States Department of Agriculture. The Empowerment Zone is comprised of communities with low-income population census tracts in a five-county region of the Middle Rio Grande. The Eagle Pass Industrial Park is located in the census tract that is in the Empowerment Zone. The Zone designation offers tax credits to employers who hire persons who live in the Empowerment Zone census tracts.
